Marson narrowly edged out Cavalry in the last 5 seconds to win the Gwalior Cup on Friday at the ARC polo ground in the Mahalaxmi Race Course, Mumbai.

The final of the Gwalior Cup was played here on Friday March 21, 2008 at the ARC Polo Ground at the Mahalaxmi Race Course between the favoured to win Cavalry and Shyam Mariwala's Marson. Cavalry started off with a 1/2 goal on handicap. Marson opened their account when a goal was missed by a Marson player but Samir Suhag converted it with a backhander into the goal. Vishal Chauhan struck back with a goal for the Cavalry. Akhil Sirohi added a goal for the Cavalty scoring off a 40 yard penalty. Marson led 2 - 1.5 at the end of the 1st chukkar.
In the 2nd chukkar Ravi Rathore took a nice shot at goal from the center of the ground after a penalty, and Vishal Chauhan put it into Marson's goal. Samir Suhag was the next scorer for Marson and easily scored off a 30 yard penalty shot. At the end of the 2nd chukkar Marson led by 1/2 a goal, 3 - 2.5.
The 3rd chukkar went in favour of the Cavalry with both Vishal Chauhan and Ravi Rathore scoring a goal each. Samir Suhag knocked in a 60 yard penalty shot for Marson. Cavalry led 4.5 - 4 at the end of the 3rd chukkar.
The last chukkar was the most exciting. Vishal Chauhan got the ball and made a great run to goal keeping the ball on his near side while Samir Suhag was doing his best to ride him off or make him miss the ball. this was probably one of the best runs in the season. Samir Suhag then put in another score for Marson. With not too much time remaining Marson got a foul and Samir Suhag hit a great shot which just stopped a few feet from the Cavalry goal. Young Kamran Ahmed made a great play on his near side and knocked the ball in for a goal. Marson now led the game by 1/2 a goal. However, with a minute to go in the game Marson conceded a penalty just 3-4 yards from their own goal. Ravi Rathore converted the goal and put the Cavalry ahead by 1/2 a goal with less than a minute to go to the end of the game. With just 6 seconds to when it all seemed over for Marson, Cavalry committed a foul which brought up a 40 yard penalty shot for Marson. This was it. All Samir Suhag had to do was score and they would steal the game away from Cavalry. Samir made no mistake and Marson won the game 7 - 6.5.
