Jindal/Sahgal defeated Cavalry (Black) to win the Northern India Polo Championship at the
Jaipur Polo
Ground, New Delhi.
Sahgal/Jindal emerged winners of the prestigious Northern
India Polo Championship (12 Goals) beating fancied Cavalry (Black) by 5.5 goals
to 5 in an exciting finals played today at the Jaipur Polo Ground. The finals
played between Sahgal/Jindal and Cavalry (Black) was a very exciting, thrilling
and hard fought match played at fast pace. Both teams combined well and played
superbly. Cavalry (Black) was a 12 goal team and Sahgal/Jindal was an 11 goal
team so Sahgal/Jindal started the match with 1/2 goal advantage and this was the
decisive for Sahgal/Jindal's victory. Lt Col Navjit Sandhu opened the account
for Cavalry (Black) and Maj Ravi Rathore added one more goal in the 1st chukker.
In the 2nd chukker Maj Ravi Rathore and Lt Col Navjit Sandhu again scored one
goal each whereas Dhruvpal Godara scored first field goal by converting a 40
yard penalty in this chukker for Sahgal/Jindal. 3rd chukker was not in favour of
Cavalry (Black) in which they could not score any goal while Sahgal/Jindal added
3 goals to their score line. Shergill, Gaurav Shagal and Dhruvpal Godara scored
one goal each. The score was 4.5 goal to 4 in favour of Sahgal/Jindal. In the
4th chukker Simran Shergill again scored a goal and gave his teams lead
5.5 to 4 but Maj Ravi Rathore reduced the margin by scoring a goal and make the
final score 5 - 5.5 but the 1/2 advantage turned the match in favour of Sahgal/Jindal.

Northern India Polo Championship (12 Goals) started today with
six teams participating. The tournament is being played on half
league basis. Six teams divided into two Pools and will play
with each other in their respective pools. The winners of the
each pool will play finals on Saturday at the Jaipur Polo
Ground, New Delhi.
The first league matches was played today at the Army Equestrian
Centre, Delhi Cantt. Sahgal/Jindal beat Cavalry (Red) by 11
goals to 6.5 and Dhillon Farm beat Horse & Wagon by
8 goals to 5. The first league match of the tournament was
played between Sahgal/Jindal and Cavalry (Red). Sahgal/Jindal
was a 11 goal team whereas Cavalry (Red) was a 6 goals team so
they got with 3.5 goal on handicap and able to score any 3
goals, 2 goals through conversion of 40 yard penalties by Lt Col
Atul Gupta in 1st and 2nd chukker and one goal added by Capt
Sameer Choudhary in the last chukker while Sahgal/Jindal scored
11 goals through Dhruvpal Godara (6), Simran Shergill (3),
Gaurav Sahgal (2).
The second match was played between Dhillon Farm and Horse &
Wagon. Both teams were 10 goals each and played superbly.
Manupal Godara opened the account for Dhillon Farm by converting
a 30 yard penalty in 1st chukker. In the 2nd chukker Angad
Kalaan scored 3 goals for Horse & Wagon while Vishal Singh and
Ransher Singh added one goal each to Dhillon Farm's score line.
The score was 3 all at the end of the 2nd Chukker. In the 3rd
chukker Angad Kalaan scored 2 goals and took their team in lead
by 5 goals to 3, but Manupal Godara played brilliantly and
equalize the score by scoring two quick goals in the same
chukker. Last and final chukker was not in favour of Horse &
Wagon whereas Dhillon Farm scored 3 goals through Manual Godara
(2) and Vishal Singh (1).

The second day league matches of the prestigious Northern India
Polo Championship (12 Goals) were played today at the Army
Equestrian Centre, Delhi Cantt. Cavalry (Black) beat Horse &
Wagon by 8 goals to 7.5 and Elevation beat Cavalry (Red) by 10
goals to 5.5.
The first league match of the day was played between Cavalry
(Black) and Horse & Wagon was a hard fought and closely
contested match. Horse & Wagon team started with 1.5 goal on
handicap and scored one goal in 1st chukker while Lt Col Tarun
Sirohi opened the account of Cavalry (Black). In the 2nd chukker
both teams scored 2 goals each. 3rd chukker was in favour of
Cavalry (Black) in which they scored 3 goals while Horse & Wagon
scored one goal only. The score was 6 - 5.5 in favour of Cavalry
(Black). In the last chukker again both teams scored 2 goals
each and the final score was 8 goals to 7.5. Scorers for Cavalry
(Black) were Maj Ravi Rathore (6), Lt Col Tarun Sirohi (1) and
Lt Col Navjit Sandhu (1). Scorers for Horse & Wagon were Angad
Kalaan (3), Buchi Prakash (2), Lt Col NS Khera (1) and started
with 1.5 goal
on handicap.
The second match of the day was played between Elevation and
Cavalry (Red). Cavalry (Red) started with 2.5 goals on handicap
and scored one goal each in their first three chukkers
while Elevation was a strong team and scored 10 goals through
Gerardo Mazzini (7), Tarun Bilwal (2) and Bhawani Singh Kalvi
(1).

The last round league matches of the prestigious Northern India
Polo Championship (12 Goals) were played today at the Jaipur
Polo Ground, New Delhi. Sahgal/Jindal beat Elevation by 6 goals
to 4 and Cavalry (Black) beat Dhillon Farm by 7 goals to 4.5.
Sahgal/Jindal will meet Cavalry (Black) in the finals tomorrow
at 3:30 PM at the Jaipur Polo Ground.
The first league match of the day was played between Sahgal/Jindal
and Elevation. Both teams were 11 handicap and combined well.
Dhruvpal Godara opened the account for Sahgal/Jindal and Simran
Shergill added goal in the 1st chukker. Simran Shergill again
scored one goal
in the 2nd chukker for Sahgal/Jindal while Satinder Garcha
opened the account for Elevation by scoring a goal in the 2nd
chukker. Gerardo Mazzini converted a 60 yard penalty for
Elevation whereas Dhruvpal Godara converted a 60 yard penalty
for Sahgal/Jindal. In the 3rd chukker Satinder Garcha and
Gerardo Mazzini again scored one goal each and leveled the
score. The last chukker was played at very fast pace and Simran
Shergill scored two brilliant goals and these goals were the decider of the victory of Sahgal/Jindal as their
opponents could not find the target. The final score was 6 goals
to 4 in favour of Sahgal/Jindal.
The second match of the tournament played between Cavalry
(Black) and Dhillon Farm was also an exciting event. Cavalry
(Black) was a 12 goal team whereas Dhillon Farm was an 10 goal
team so Dhillon Farm started with 1.5 goal on handicap. Cavalry
(Black) combined well and put pressure on their opponents from
very beginning of the 1st chukker and scored 3 goals each in 1st
and 2nd chukker. Maj Ravi Rathore opened the account and
converted a 60 yard penalty, Lt Col Navjit Sandhu added one more
goal in the 1st chukker. In the 2nd chukker Lt Col Tarun Sirohi
played brilliantly and scored two quick goals and Lt Col Navjit
Sandhu added another
goal, while Manupal Godara scored first field goal in 2nd
chukker and converted a 30 yard penalty in the 3rd chukker. In
the last chukker Maj Ravi Rathore scored one goal for Cavalry
(Black) while Manupal Godara scored a goal for Dhillon Farm. The
final score was 7 goals
to 4.5 in favour of Cavalry (Black).
