Sahgal Stud defeated IMA (Red) to win the Junior National IPA Championship at
the Jaipur Polo
Ground, New Delhi.
Sahgal Stud emerged winners of the Junior National
Championship beating IMA (Grey) by 7 goals to 6.5 today at the Jaipur Polo
Ground. Prized were given away by Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh, Vice President
Indian Polo Association to the players.
The finals played between Sahgal Stud and IMA (Grey) was a hard fought and very
closely contested affair. IMA (Grey) was started with 2.5 goal on handicap and
GC Y Kumar scored 1st field goal in the 1st chukker while Gaurav Sahgal opened
the account for Sahgal Stud by converting a 60 yard penalty. Gaurav Sahgal again
scored 2 goals (conversion of 30 yard penalty and spot hit) and one goal was
added by Zahan Kapoor in 2nd chukker to take their lead by 4 - 3.5 but GC Y
Kumar and GC Malik scored one goal each for IMA (Grey) to once gain take their
lead by 5.5 to 4. In the 3rd chukker Gaurav Sahgal once again converted a 60
yard penalty to narrow the margin but GC Y Kumar scored a goal for IMA (Grey) to
further increase their lead at the end of 3rd chukker. Last chukker was played
at fast pace in which Gaurav Sahgal, the architect of the Sahgal Stud scored 2
goals (one through 40 yard penalty and one field goal) to take the lead 7 – 6.5.
The IMA tried their best but could not score in the last chukker. Scorers for
Sahgal Stud were Gaurav Sahgal (6), Zahan Kapoor (1). Scorers for IMA (Grey)
were GC Y Kumar (3), GC A Malik (1) and started with 2 ½ goal on handicap.

The Junior IPA National Polo Championship started today with
three teams participating. The Championship is being played
Round Robin basis. The opening match of the Championship was
played today at the Army Equestrian Centre, Delhi Cantt. IMA
(Red) beat IMA (Grey) earlier by 8 goals to 1 goal. The match
was hard fought but for the score which IMA (Red) beat IMA
(Grey) by 8-1 goals. Both teams were equal handicap. IMA (Red)
with the more experienced players. The IMA (Grey) team kept
fighting and put up an excellent display of team play and
horsemanship. The IMA (Grey) were unluckily to score only one
goal in the 2nd chukker.
Scorers of the IMA (Red) were GC P Phule (1), GC Y Kumar (1), GC
A Singh (2) and GC A Malik (4) goals. GC B Chaudhary was the
only scorer who scored the only goal for IMA (Grey).

The second match of Junior IPA Championship was played today at
the Army Equestrian Centre between Sahgal Stud and IMA (Grey).
IMA (Grey) team started with 2.5 and could not score any field
goal while Sahgal Stud scored 12 goals through Gaurav Sahgal
(6), Zahan Kapoor (3), Siddhant Sharma (3).
