Simbhaoli / Himalayan Horse upset Cavalry Red to win the Rao Raja Hanut Singh Cup at the
Jaipur Polo
Ground, New Delhi.
The Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse emerged winners of Rao Raja
Hanut Singh Cup (Open with Handicap) defeating fancied Cavalry (Red) by 5.5
goals to 5 in the exciting finals played today at the Jaipur Polo Ground. Lt Gen
Dalip Bhardwaj, VMS, Director General of Mach Forces gave away the prizes to the
players.
The first finals of the Delhi Spring Polo Season were played today at the Jaipur
Polo Ground between Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse and Cavalry (Red). The final was
very exciting, thrilling and a vary hard fought match. Both the teams displayed
their superb stick work and good horsemanship which was witnessed by a large
number of polo enthusiasts. Cavalry (Red) was 11 goals team and Simbhaoli/Himalayan
Horse was 7 goal team so as Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse had a jump start of 2.5
goals . The 1st chukker was played at a very fast pace but goal less. In the 2nd
chukker Samir Suhag opened the account for Cavalry (Red) by converting a spot
hit and added one more field goal whereas for Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse Manupal
Godara played brilliantly in this chukker and scored 2 field goals to still
maintained their teams lead 4.5 to 2. The 3rd chukker was totally in favour of
Cavalry (Red) in which Lt Col Atul Gupta scored a brilliant goal at the
beginning of the chukker and Capt Sameer Chaudhary added one more goal, whereas
Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse could not find any target in this chukker but they
were still leading by 1/2 a goal which decided their victory. The last and final
chukker was also played at a very fast pace, Samir Suhag scored a goal for
Cavalry Red and took his team into the lead but during the dying minutes of the
match Manupal Godara converted a 40 yard penalty and won the match with 5.5
goals to 5.
Scorers for Cavalry (Red) were Samir Suhag (3), Lt Col Atul Gupta (1), Capt
Sameer Chaudhary (1). Manupal Godara was lone scorer for Simbhaoli/Himalayan
Horse who scored all 3 goals.

Rao Raja Hanut Singh Cup (Open with Handicap) polo tournament
started today with five teams participating. The tournament is
played on half league basis. Opening match of the Delhi Spring
Polo Season was played today at the Army Equestrian Centre as
first league match of Rao Raja Haunt Singh Cup between Simbhaoli/Himalayan
Horse and Navy/RVC. Navy//RVC was a low goal team and started
their game with 5.5 goal on handicap and Lt A Panchal was able
to score a goal in the 4th chukker whereas Simbhaoli/Himalayan
Horse was a strong team. They scored 13 goals. Manupal Godara
scored 7 goals, Abhimanyu Pathak, Angad Singh and Jagat Singh
added 2 goals each for their team.

The league matches of Rao Raja Hanut Singh Cup (Open with
Handicap) were played today
at the Jaipur Polo Ground and the Army Equestrian Centre Polo
Ground. Cavalry/Carnoustie beat Navy/RVC by 16 goals to 7.5 and
Cavalry (Red) beat Jindal/Sahgal by 5 goals to 3.5.
The first match of the day played between Cavalry/Carnoustie and
Navy/RVC at the Army Equestrian Centre Polo Ground. Navy//RVC
was a low goal team and started their game with 7.5 goals on
handicap and were unable to scorer while Cavalry/Carnoustie
scored 16 goals through Maj Ravi Rathore (6), Lt Col Navjit
Sandhu (5), Capt Arjun Patil (4) and Lt Col Tarun Sirohi (1).
The second match of the day was played at the Jaipur Polo Ground
between Cavalry (Red) and Jindal/Sahgal. Dhruvpal Godara scored
first goal for Jindal/Sahgal who started with 1/2 goal on
handicap while Samir Suhag opened the account for Cavalry (Red)
by converting a 60 yard penalty in the 1st chukker. Second
chukker was goal less. In the 3rd chukker Simran Shergill scored
a goal for Jindal/Sahgal to increase their lead by 2.5 to 1, but
after that the combination of
Cavalry (Red) came forward and Samir Suhag scored two brilliant
goals including one spot hit almost from 80 yards. Lt Col Atul
Gupta added one more goal by converting a 40 yard penalty. In
4th and final chukker Capt Vishal Chouhan scored a goal for
Cavalry (Red) to increase their lead by 5 to 2.5 but in last
minutes of chukker Dhruvpal Godara also converted a 40 yard
penalty for Jindal/Sahgal to reduce the margin by 3.5 goals to
5. Scorers for Cavalry (Red) were - Samir Suhag (3), Lt Col Atul
Gupta (1), Capt Vishal Chauhan (1). Scorers for Jindal/Sahgal
were - Dhruvpal Godara (2), Simran Shergill (1) and started with
1/2 goal on handicap.

The last league matches of Rao Raja Hanut Singh Cup (Open with
Handicap) were played today at the Jaipur Polo Ground. Simbhaoli/Himalayan
Horse beat Cavalry/Carnoustie by 7.5 goals to 4 and Cavalry
(Red) beat Jindal/Sahgal by 5 goals to 4.
The last league match of Pool A was played today between
Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse and Cavalry/Carnoustie. Simbhaoli/Himalayan
Horse was a 7 goal team and Cavalry/Carnoustie was a 11 goal
team so as Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse team had a jump start with
2.5 goals on handicap and scored 2 brilliant goals, through one
goal by Abhimanyu Pathak and one by conversion of a 40 yard
penalty through Manupal Godara whereas Lt Col Navjit Sandhu
converted a long spot hit approx 80 yards as 1st goal of
Cavalry/Carnoustie. 2nd chukker was totally in favour in
Cavalry/Carnoustie in which they scored two goals, one through
Lt Col Tarun Sirohi and one conversion of 40 yard penalty
through Lt Col Navjit Sandhu whereas Simbhoali/Himalayan Horse
could not scored any goal in this chukker. In the 3rd chukker
both teams added one goal each in their score line. Maj Ravi
Rathore converted a 30 yard penalty
for Cavalry/Carnoustie and Manupal Godara converted a 40 yard
penalty for Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse.The score was 5.5 to
3 in favour of Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse at the end of 3rd
chukker. The last and final chukker played on a very fast pace
both teams came forwarded with their best pony power and played
superbly. Manupal Godara scored 2 goals to make sure victory of
their team and entered in the finals of tournament. Scorers for
Simbhaoli/Himalayan Horse were - Manupal Godara (4), Abhimanyu
Pathak (1). Scorers for Cavalry/Carnoustie were - Lt Col Navjit
Sandhu (2), Lt Col Tarun Sirohi (1), Maj Ravi Rathore (1).
The second match of the day was played between Cavalry (Red) and
Jindal Sahgal as continuation of Pool B match. In the earlier
match Cavalry (Red) beat Jindal/Sahgal by 5 goals to 3.5. Jindal/Sahgal
team was a 10 goal team and Cavalry (Red) was a 11 goal team so
as Jindal/Sahgal teams have to start their match with 1/2 goal
on handicap but being 1.5 goal lead in earlier match by Cavalry
(Red), the today's match started with one goal lead by Cavalry
(Red). Cavalry (Red) put pressure on their opponents from the
very beginning for the 1st chukker and scored 2 goals through
Samir Suhag (one field goal and one 60 yard conversion) while
Dhruvpal Godara opened the account for Jindal/Sahgal. In the 2nd
chukker Cavalry (Red) again scored 2
goals through Samir Suhag (conversion of 40 yard) and one goal
by Capt Vishal Chauhan while Jindal/Sahgal could not make any
target in this chukker. In the 3rd chukker Jindal/Sahgal scored
2 goals through Rajesh Sahgal (spot hit) and Dhruvpal Godara
(conversion of 40 yard penalty). The score was 5 goals to 3 in
favour of Cavalry (Red) at the end of 3rd chukker. In the last
chukker Dhruvpal Godara converted a 40 yard penalty and reduced
the margin to 4 goals to 5. Scorers for Cavalry (Red) were - Samir Suhag (3), Capt Vishal Chauhan (1) and started with 1 goal
lead. Scorers for Jindal/Sahgal were - Dhruvpal Godara (3),
Rajesh Sahgal (1).
