Himalayan Horse defeated Cavalry/ASC to win the Baroda
Cup played at the Jaipur Polo Ground, New Delhi.
The final of the Baroda Cup was played between Himalayan Horse and Cavalry/ASC.
Gaurav Sahgal substituted for Varun Sharma who suffered a broken arm in the
previous tournament. Cav/ASC started off with 1.5 goals on handicap.
Himalayan Horse opened their account with a goal in the first 90 secs of the 1st
chukker. About half way into the chukker Cav/ASC were awarded a penalty
hit which but Samir Suhag's shot went wide. Seconds later Himalayan Horse
was awarded a 60 yard penalty but Ransher Singh's shot was off the mark.
With less than 2 mins to go in the chukker Gaurav Sahgal tok a good near side
shot at the Cav/ASC goal but that went wide too. With just 10 secs left in
the 1st chukker Cav/ASC got a 60 yard hit but Samir's shot went wide again. Cav/ASC
led 1.5 - 1 at the end of the 1st chukker. In the opening 15 secs of the
2nd chukker, Samir who was playing very well, hit another 60 yard shot but it
went wide off the goal. With 5.5 mins to go in chukker 2 Himalayan
Horse was fouled on the right of the score board and were awarded a 5B hit.
It was promoted by Lokendra Singh and he managed to get another foul off the Cav/ASC
tram and was awarded a 40 yard penalty which was easily converted by Abhimanu
Pathak. Himalayan Horse added to their lead by scoring again 90 secs
later. With just 20 secs to go in the 2nd chukker Samir Suhag took a spot
hit from left of the score board and promoted it to Col Pandher who headed to
the Himalayan Horse goal. Lokendra Singh tried to back the ball and missed
and Pandher scored for Cav/ASC with two good shots. At the mid point of
the game Himalayan Horse led 3 - 2.5. In the beginning of the 3rd chukker
Himalayan Horse got the ball at the throw-in and it was promoted to Ransher who
made no mistake and took it to the Cav/ASC goal. A minute later Gaurav
Sahgal took the ball and score a goal with a good hard hit. With 4 mins to
go in the 4rd chukker Cavalry/ASC scored off a penalty. The 3rd chukker
ended with Himalayan Horse leading 5 - 3.5. Just 30 secs into the 4th
chukker Lokendra Singh got the ball on the right of the score board and took it
all the way to the left side goal of Cav/ASC but his final tap went wide of the
goal. A minute later a 60 yards penalty was awarded to Cav/ASC but that
unfortunately went wide too. With less than 3 mins to go in the game the
ball was promoted by Col Khera to Pandher, again taken by Khera, and again by
Samir and resulted in Cav/ASC getting a penalty spot hits just 2 yards from the
goal mouth which they converted easily. The score was now 5 - 4.5 in
favour of Himalayan Horse. Cav/ASC had their chance to go ahead with only
1.30 left in the game. The ball was promoted and was about two yards from
the Himalayan goal but there was no one to put it in and Lokendra Singh cleared
the ball. With 20 secs to go Lokendra Singh again got the ball and score a good
goal for Himalayan Horse who won the Baroda Cup with a final score of 6 - 4.5.

The 1st semi final was played between Himalayan Horse and and Equisport.
Both teams combined well and played superbly. Gaurav Sahgal replaced Varun
Sharma who broke his arm before the start of the tournament. In the 1st chukker
Simran Shergill converted a 60 yard penalty to open the account for Equisport.
In the 2nd chukker Himalayan Horse scored one goal to equalize the score but
Equisport scored another goal to take their lead 3-2 and Himalayan Horse scored
a quick goal to neutralize the score 2-2 at the end of 2nd chukker. In the 3rd
chukker Himalayan Horse scored one goal to take the lead 3-2 but Equisport
scored 2 goals to take over the lead 4-3 at the end of 3rd chukker. Himalayan
Horse came forward in the 4th chukker and scored 2 goals to take the lead 5-4
but Equisport scored a goal to equalize the score 5-5 in the final seconds of
the fourth chukker. In the sudden death 5th chukker Ransher Singh scored the
winning goal for Himalaysan Horse to enable his team to enter the final. The
scorers for Himalayan Horse were Gaurav Sahgal , Abhimanyu Pathak and Ransher
Singh who scored two goals each while scorers for Equisport were – Simran
Shergill (2) and Manupal Godara (3).
The 2nd semi final was played between Cavalry/Carnoustie and Cavalry/ASC.
In the 1st chukker the ball kept going back and forth between the teams and
neither was able to convert any of the opportunities, and the chukker ented
scoreless with Cav/ASC leading 1/2 - 0 due to the handicap difference. In
the 2nd chukker Samir Suhag scored with Akhil Sirhoi scoring for the opponents
with a good near side shot. Samir Suhag who was playing very well
converted another 60 yard penalry and Cav/ASC led 2.5 - 1. With 3 mins to
go in the 2nd chukker Navjit Sandhu converted a 60 yard penalty with a flyer.
A minute into the 3rd chukker Navjit Sandhu took a good under the neck shot but
it missed the goal. Two minutes later Samir Suhag attempted a 60 yard
penalty and missed. With three mins to go in the 3rd chukker Navjit was
fouled and Cav/Carnoustie got a 30 yard penalty which Ravi Rathore converted
with ease. In the last minute of the 3rd chukker Samir Suhag took a
penalty shot near the score board and advanced the ball with a few taps and
passed it to Pandher who scored a good goal. Again with only 10 secs to go
in the 3rd chukker Samir took a shot from the centre of the ground towards Col
Pandher who took two shots to put in into the goal. At the end of the 3rd
chukker Cav/ASC were leading 4.5 - 3. A minute and a half into the last
chukker Ravi Rathore got hold of the ball near the Cav/ASC goal, turned it and
scored. There were now just a goal behind. With just under two mins to go
in the game Samir took a hit from the centre of the fround and it was promoted
by Arjun Patil who was fouled by Jagdeep Khairon. Samir Suhag easily
converted the resulting 30 yard penalty. With a minute to go in the game
Cav/Carnoustie goa a 60 yard penalty which was taken by Ravi Thore but it hit an
opponents stick and they got a safety. Ravi tried again but the ball went
wide over the goal. Cav/ASC won the match 5.5 - 4 and advanced to the
final of the Baroda Cup. Scorers for Cavalry/ASC were – Lt Col GS Pandher, SM
(2)
Samir Suhag (3). Scorers for Cavalry/Carnoustie were – Lt Cdr Akhil Sirohi (1)
and Major Ravi Rathore (3).

Cavalry/Carnoustie met Himalayan Horse in the 2nd game of the
Baroda Cup. Around the middle of the opening chukker
Himalayan Horse scored through a 30 yard penalty. Less
than a minute later the ball was promoted towards Akhil Sirohi
who scored with an under the neck shot. With 30 secs to go
in the 1st chukker Navjit promoted the ball towards Akhil who
took it towards the Hiimalayan Horse goal and then Navjit came
from behind and put the ball theough the goal. At the end
of the 1st chukker Cav/Carnoustie led 2.5 - 1. A minute
into the 2nd chukker Abhimanu Pathak took the ball towards the
cavalry goal and missed the last shot but the ball still
trickled into the goal. With a 1:30 to go in the chukker
there was a Cavalry converted a 60 yards penalty due to a foul
by Himalayan Horses' Lokendra Singh. In the last 20 secs
of the 2nd chukker the ball was promoted towards the Himalayan
Horse goal from the cente and Akhil took a good under the neck
shot to increase the lead to 4.5 - 2. Two minutes into the
3rd chukker Ransher Singh and Abhimanu Patkak took the ball
towards the Cavalry goal and Gaurav Saghal (substituting for
Varun Sharma who bouke his arm in the previous tournament)
scored for Himalayan Horse. In the last two minutes of the
3rd chukker Ransher Singh fouled and Cavalry were awarded a 60
yard hit which ravi Rathore converted with a flyer. In the
last 20 seconds Gaurav Sahgal promoted the ball to Lokendra
Singh who scored for Himalayan Horse. Cavalry let5.5 - 5
at the end of the 3rd chukker. The last chukker belonged
to Cavalry/Carnoustie. Ten secs into the 4th chukker
Vanjit Sandhu fouled but Ransher failed to convert the 60 yard
penalty. A little later Ransher fouled Akhil near the 60
yard line and Ravi Rathore converted the resulting 40 yard
penalty. A short time lated Ransher fouled Navjit but Ravi
failed to convert the 60 yard hit. With 4 mins to go in
the game Lokendra Singh fouled and Ravi Rathore converted the 40
yard penalty. Again with 3 mins to go in the game Navjit
Sandhu scored for Cav/Carnoustie to make the final score 8.5 -
5.

Equisport met Cavalry/ASC in the first game of the Baroda Cup. For the
Cavalry/ASC team Major Col Pandher and Col Khera were replaced by Maj A
Samantray (+1) and Maj Faiz Siddiqui (+1). They received a 2-1/2 goal
advantage on handicap. In the 1st chukker Baljinder Dhillon scored for
Equisport. Two mins into the chukker Cavalry/ASC got a 60 yard hit but Samir's shot went wide of the goal. Simran Shergill converted for
Equisport with 2.5 mins to go in the chukker. About 30 seconds later
Adhiraj Singh took the ball from the centre of the ground into the Cavalry/ASC
goal. In the last 30 secs of the 1st chukker Manupal Godara attempted a
near side back hander and fouled. Samir Suhag took the resulting 5B penaly
and hit towards goal where his team goal another 40 yard penalty which he
converted dead centre. The 1st chukker ended with Cavalry/ASC leading 3.5
- 3. Within the first 20 seconds of the 2nd chukker Samantray took the
ball towards the Equisport goal. The ball stopped just short of the goal.
Adhiraj turned the ball but got fouled and Equisport got a %B. Simran took
the hit and promoted it to Manupal Godara who took it to the goal line.
Equisport was definitely the stronger team and kept scoring. By then of
the 3rd chukker they were leading 9 - 5.5. In the last chukker Samir Suhag
scored a 30 yard penalty. A little later Faiz Siddiqui took the ball to
Equisport's goal and it went wide. However, just before it went across the
sideline he managed to hit a back hander at an almost impossible angle and
managed to score. Equisport again managed to score and game ended with a
final score of 10 - 7.5
